Siemens and leading German educators collaborate on Academia 4.0

In German the word “Hochschultage” means university days. Annually organized by the German PLM Usergroup German educators and experts from Siemens PLM Software are meeting to discuss industry trends and academic best practices. Last month, more than 40 professors who base their research and curriculum around software from Siemens PLM Software gathered together in Cologne for the Hochschultage 2017 conference.

At this two-day conference, attendees exchange teaching concepts and experiences with other colleagues, as well as discuss new ideas and solutions. Subject matter experts from Siemens exchanged knowledge about the challenges in education in digital solutions.

Besides classic topics like design, product lifecycle management or manufacturing solutions, it was quite interesting to see that new topics are emerging in the academic education. With Industry 4.0 themes like Virtual Reality or the merge of mechanical and software in the classic mechanical engineering education have been incorporated into classrooms.

Modern products are getting more and more complex and previously separated disciplines are moving closer together. Besides a mechanical and an electrical part also software has to be addressed. Tools like Polarion can here help to define and manage the requirement of the software development and the use of Polarion in education was shown.

Overall it was a great event for all peers that are involved in educating the next generation of digital talent!
