Recap on the EcoCAR 3 – Year 3 Winter Workshop
EcoCAR 3 teams, organizers, and sponsors were in Austin, Texas for the Year 3 Winter Workshop last week.
EcoCAR 3 is the latest U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) series. As a premier collegiate automotive engineering competition, EcoCAR 3challenges 16 North American university teams to redesign a Chevrolet Camaro to reduce its environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic car.
Teams have four years (2014-2018) to harness those ideas into the ultimate energy-efficient, high performance vehicle. Over that time, teams will develop and integrate energy efficient powertrains as well as incorporate alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies that will lower greenhouse gas and tailpipe emissions.
The four-day workshop provided students with details for the upcoming Year 3 Competition, as well as next year’s Year 4 Over-the-Road Event. The workshop offered sessions led by project management and engineering professionals. Students participated in hands-on training on Siemens NX™ Design and Siemens Simcenter™, ADAS training, Vehicle and Component Test Development training, as well as Vehicle Systems Communication and Operation training with GM.
The teams have returned to their universities and are working hard on their Camaros. The EcoCAR 3 Year 3 Final Competition will be held in May and Siemens PLM Software will be there again with a booth presence, judges and training professionals.
