Academic Highlights from PLM Connections
Siemens PLM Connection brings together over 2,000 customers, partners, and Siemens representatives for education, networking, and training, offering countless benefits to individuals and companies seeking to expand their knowledge and connect with industry professionals and peers.
There were Hundreds of presentations delivered by real PLM users. Michigan State University NX faculty Katherine Stevenson had a fantastic time presenting about “Using Convergent Modeling to Design in an Assembly”. She shared basic techniques for using convergent modeling functionality and time saving techniques for designing in the context of the STL assembly with real life examples. She is teaching all design work on NX to 250 students each semester from fda to anlaysis. 
Two professors from Skoltech did a session about masters level courses dedicated to System Driven Product Development (SDPD) and multiphysics simulation. They are teaching Introduction to PLM to 22-30 students in the 1st year of the masters course and Advanced PLM to 8-10 students in their final year.
Oakland University Profesorr Dr. Bob Van Til did a presentation about PLM Education at Oakland University. Oakland University’s Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) Department received the in-kind grant from Siemens in 2011. The presentation will follow the evolution of the ISE department’s participation in academic program, which began with the integration of Tecnomatix software solutions into several ISE courses and the creation of a keystone course which presents PLM as a business concept. This session will center on topics which should be included in courses that focus on the application of PLM tools, and ways to involve industry feedback on developing projects for use in these courses. Main highlight was the display of Arizona State University EcoCAR. As North America’s premier collegiate automotive engineering competition, EcoCAR 3 is challenging 16 North American university teams to redesign a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro by demonstrating emerging automotive technologies, while still maintaining the performance expected from this iconic American car.
The ASU EcoCAR 3 team is comprised of multidisciplinary studies which includes graduate and undergraduate engineering and business students. These students come from two different campuses and structure to form 7 sub-teams: mechanical, electrical, controls, systems modeling & simulation, innovation, project management and communications. Team members are responsible for meeting deliverables throughout all four years in areas of engineering, project management and communications.
Academic working group session was attended by 17 people -10 educators from 7 universities. 8 intern students from various academic partners were helping at PLM Connections and they had the great opportunity for networking with different industry people for their future.
