DIY Home Décor with Catchbook

home decor.jpgDIY home décor has some serious benefits: You get a totally custom look that suits your tastes and will be the envy of all your friends and neighbors. It costs a heck of a lot less than custom home décor from a professional. It gives you a chance to flex those creativity muscles and get hands-on! Who doesn’t love a good DIY project?

One of the downsides can be the amount of work (read: time and effort) it takes to get great results. That is, if you’re not an experienced pro yourself. Still, don’t let that deter you from trying out DIY home décor! Catchbook goes a long way in helping you out, so you get a flawless new look for your home without all of the painstaking effort you’d normally have to put in.

Have you ever redecorated your living room yourself? I have, and while it turned out beautiful (in my not-so-humble opinion), it took A LOT of time to pull the look together. If you’ve ever made a floor plan from scratch before using good old fashioned pen and paper, you will relate to my struggle.

First, I had to measure the room and convert those measurements to a scale that would fit on my 8 ½ by 11 inch sheet of paper. Then I had to do the same for all of my furniture. Once I had the furniture drawn, I then had to cut out these teeny tiny little drawings. Next came placing them on the paper. At one point, just as I was placing the very last chair at the perfect angle, I accidentally breathed too hard and the furniture went flying. I’m not joking. I may have cried a little.

Now, if I had had Catchbook at the time, I could have saved myself a few paper cuts and at least an hour’s worth of time. You can draw up a floor plan in a matter of seconds with Catchbook, and dimensions are automatic, making it easy to get an accurate, to-scale drawing. Simply tap to place the dimensions, and if you need to edit them, don’t worry; it’s as simple as tapping again to type in a new one. You can also easily switch between metric and English units with–you guessed it–another tap of a finger.

Draw.jpgAnother great feature Catchbook offers is the ability to import pictures direct from your tablet or smartphone. That means instead of cutting out little diagrams of furniture, you can just snap a few pics, insert them into Catchbook, resize and… boom! You have a complete floor plan that shows exactly how your furniture will look in your completed room.

What if you want totally new furniture though? In the video below, you’ll see a couple debating between their existing coffee table and a few different shapes for a new one. It’s easy to try a new look out with Catchbook before you commit to it. If you have a certain shape in mind, you can draw it quickly and accurately. Drawing Recognition transforms your wobbly, sort-of circles into real ones. Same goes for lines, arcs, curves, and any other geometry you dream up.

What else can you do with Catchbook? How about collaborate with others. Catchbook offers the ability to export your files to standard formats, so you can easily share your work with anyone. Email your designs to your interior decorator, or share them on social media for all to see! Send your Catchbook files to your friends. If they have Catchbook too, they’ll be able to open your design, edit it, and send it back to you! Two heads are better than one, so design together!
