The Future World Series at Expo 2020 Dubai is bringing together some of the greatest minds to tackle the world’s toughest problems. Working with our customers and partners, we are creating solutions to make cities worldwide greener, cleaner, safer and smarter. Specifically, Siemens is reshaping the future of urban living by creating a blueprint for smart cities, connecting them through the industrial Internet of Things (IoT).
With over 200 participants, including nations, multilateral organizations, businesses and educational institutions, the Expo connects communities from around the world to experience, explore and innovate by sharing ideas and working together.
Industrial IoT solutions for the Smart City
Siemens industrial IoT is participating in Expo 2020 Dubai by hosting the Future World Series. Our goal? To help make our world smarter, more livable and sustainable. We’re not only hosting workshops and hackathons, we’re making the Expo 2020 itself a Smart City. We are putting our technology into action and showcasing the power of industrial IoT solutions throughout the exhibition grounds, an area twice the size of Monaco.
When tasked with making Expo 2020 the most sustainable expo ever, a team of Siemens IoT experts led by Afzal Shabaz Mohammed used Siemens IoT as an all-in-one solution to develop a smart environment. This team built the ground-breaking Smart City App and its IoT framework, bringing the physical Expo site into the digital space. By collecting, monitoring, correlating and analyzing Expo site data in the cloud, the Smart City app gives Expo organizers a look at metrics from the entire Expo infrastructure and acts as a single source of truth to help drive Expo’s high sustainability goals and KPIs. The Smart City App not only makes the Expo itself more sustainable, but it also provides a space for creators and innovators to continue iterating on possibilities for a better tomorrow.

As part of the Future World Series at Expo 2020 Dubai, we are welcoming start-ups, innovative companies and partners to join us in our continued efforts to evolve, improve and innovate the Smart City. We’re holding hackathons focused on specific industry challenges around the following topics:
Together, these areas make cities run. They also represent our Big Five Topics, and each is highlighted during their own hackathons at Expo 2020. In addition, we’re hosting talks, panels, and online and offline activities to enable you to engage and connect with other innovators.
