Solid Edge University Hosts US Veterans

During Karsten Newbury’s Keynote at Solid Edge University, he announced a new partnership between Siemens PLM and the organization Still Serving Veterans. The training initiative is a regional productivity program targeted at veterans of the US Armed Forces to develop their skills in STEM-related careers (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

To kick off this program, the Solid Edge team paid for 15 Veterans to attend Solid Edge University (Shout out to the Gaylord Hotel who picked up the tab for their room, thank you!). They attended the same hands-on classes that our users did. They are from every branch of the military, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, etc and have a variety of backgrounds from logistics to working on satellites to food service.

Needless to say, Karsten’s announcement was met with much enthusiasm….including our keynote presenter Jay Rogers (former Marine) who told his personal war story after hearing about this program.

I caught up with COL (R) Will Webb who leads the Still Serving Veterans Organization to find our more about what this means for his organization, Siemens PLM and the Veterans. Jay Rogers also got a chance to meet COL Webb and his team. There was much HOORAHing but I didn’t get that on film 😉

I also stopped Edward Smith, a retired communication specialist from the Army, who gave me his thoughts about Solid Edge, the event and what his plans are. (FYI to our sister company Siemens Energy, you may want to contact Edward).
