“Design without boundaries” comes alive at Solid Edge University 2015

The theme for the latest version of Solid Edge “Design without boundaries” is a reflection of how our users are breaking through barriers with their latest product designs using the improved power and flexibility of Solid Edge ST8. The general session presentations at Solid Edge University 2015 in Cincinnati October 26-28th from our users, partners and Siemens staff will show how improving product development processes results in best-in-class products that beat the competition.

Ten Kate Racing have been using Solid Edge for a number of years to design components for their high performance motorcycles that are competing for Team Pata Honda in the 2015 World Superbike Championships. Ten Kate will discuss how they are running full Solid Edge design sessions on mobile devices like the Microsoft Surface Pro at the race track during practice, qualifying and racing giving them full access to their designs and enabling them to quickly capture feedback from their riders and the pit crew on performance. If modifications to components are required the design changes can be made immediately and sent to the workshop giving them a head start over their completion to prepare for the next race.

And for Philip Norman of Ross Robotics, nature is the inspiration for his designs of configurable robots that perform a variety of tasks in challenging conditions. Philip will discuss how he is inspired by polymaths like the 13th-century Italian philosopher Thomas Aquinas who declared that creations possess transcendent quality when their design reflects the fundamental principles underlying the natural world. Find out more about this philosophy and how you can apply it to your own designs at Solid Edge University 2015!

One of our key technology partners is Microsoft, and their Director of Business Development & Strategy Simon Floyd will discuss how recent advances in the power and design of mobile devices are having a big impact on how and where engineers optimize their designs, and work more effectively with their colleagues, suppliers and customers. Simon will also talk about the new Surface Pro 4 and how Solid Edge was featured in the recent launch of this new device.

Another of our partners Majenta PLM will present new techniques for reverse engineering existing designs into 3D CAD models using 3D scanning methodology, and show how this has been applied to capturing the design of a classic kit car, the DAX 427.

From Siemens PLM Software, John Miller, Vice President of Mainstream Engineering will welcome attendees and partners to Solid Edge University 2015 and give his perspective on fast developing Solid Edge community. Ken Hosch will present our new Catchbook sketch tool, an easy to use app that runs on tablet devices and that is a great tool for capturing your design ideas at home, in college and in the workplace. And Dan Staples our VP of product development will present the latest developments in Solid Edge that support our “Design without boundaries” theme. Dan’s presentation is always exciting and eagerly anticipated by our users – expect some surprises again this year!
