NX CAE Symposium 2012 – 2nd day, afternoon sessions

Dan Mekker of Siemens energy gave the afternoon keynote, speaking at length about the role of, and challenges associated with CAE for global product development.  I really liked the notion of integrating analysis quality checks into standard analysis workflows.  Dan also got me thinking about technology harmonization, particularly in the context of large organizations that are constantly expanding their portfolios through strategic acquisitions.

Ajmal Ansari of Lear presented his thermal analysis of a DC to AC inverter that Lear produces for hybrid vehicle powertrains.

Michael Smith illustrated Caterpillar’s journey from I-DEAS to NX, detailing the comparison studies that lead to the NX decision, and the subsequent collaboration with Siemens to fine tune and tailor the solution to their needs.

The late afternoon concluded with two composites-themed presentations, by Alastair Komus (CIC) and Olivier Guillermin (SPLM) respectively.  Alastair shared his work on a composites-based electric hybrid vehicle, with laminate structural analysis.

Olivier gave the audience an overview of Siemens PLM Software’s solutions for composite design and simulation, as well a preview of what’s in the pipeline.

The day ended with prizes for 4 lucky attendees who’s completed feedback forms were picked via lucky draw.  After two days of engaging CAE discussion, technology updates, laughs, laps and more – NX CAE Symposium 2012 has come to an end.  Thanks for riding along, and see you next year!
