Daimler and Siemens PLM Discuss Next Steps at Townhall
By now, I hope you have seen the Siemens PLM’s news on Daimler AG’s selection of NX for CAD. The press release noted Daimler would integrate work from more than 20 development centers and their suppliers on a single product development platform beginning in the summer of 2012.
Last Friday, we had an internal Siemens town hall for employees with Siemens PLM President Chuck Grindstaff and Prof. Bharat Balasubramanian of Daimler R&D product innovation and process technology.
Chuck started the meeting by saying that after an extensive 18-month evaluation, we were chosen to help Daimler enhance their development processes and their production planning and therefore increase their productivity. He said that Siemens PLM’s secrets to success are:
- Listening to our customers and their needs
- Providing modular/open technology
- Delivering the best products
Some of the key points addressed by Prof. Bharat were:
- Daimler has a long history of innovation. They were the first European company to fully use NASTRAN for Simulation and to implement Teamcenter/Metaphase
- He expects that this decision will change the landscape of how companies use CAD and PDM in the industry
- He added that the JT open data technology is crucial to making this step forward
