Managing Automotive Complexity

Managing complexity was a consistent theme at PLM Connection two weeks ago. We shared with customers ways in which the HD-PLM technology framework could help visualize and make sense of that complexity. So it was timely that during that same week, SAE held a webinar titled: “Managing Vehicle Complexity through Systems-Driven Product Development.”

We’ve seen automobiles evolve from purely mechanical to electronic with onboard vehicle computer systems that can include up to 10 million lines of code. In the webinar, Christopher Davey, a senior technical leader within the Ford Global Electrical & Electronic Systems Engineering organization (EESE), discussed the transition process and resulting successes that Ford has seen with the implementation of an integrated software system. Dr. Stefan Jockusch, vice president for Mechatronics Process Management at Siemens PLM, discussed the benefits of systems-driven product development.

If you’re involved in automotive product development, check out the recorded webinar available for the next couple of months via SAE’s website.
