Welcome John Whetstone to our BlogSquad

Please welcome John Whetstone to our Blogsquad. John is currently the Product Manager for Decision Support Tools. What are Decision Support tools, you ask?

At Siemens PLM Software, this is a newly formed portfolio of tools being developed by the Technology and Innovation team. The purpose of these tools is to help PLM users make smarter decisions throughout the product lifecycle. The toolset is currently being defined and will include solutions that help our customers

1. define and clarify problems


2. specify solution criteria


3. compare, understand and rank alternative solutions


4. document decision rationale and encourage decision making best practices.

The portfolio currently includes Visual Reports and later this year will include a set of Comparison tools.



John’s been with the company for over 16 years and is experienced in both product management and software development for our Teamcenter and NX products. His prior contributions at Siemens include leadership of Teamcenter development as well as NX CAD and NX CAE development. He’s contributed to many other programs over the years including portfolio planning, the Content Migration Manager for Pro/Engineer, the original Active Workspace and the Teamcenter deployment at Siemens Metals in Linz, Austria. He has a B.S in Aeronautical Engineering from California Polytechnic.

His personal interests include physical fitness, running ( he recently ran the Boulder Bolder, the largest 10k race in the country and runs every year in a 200 mile relay race), weight training, snow skiing, nutrition, hiking and horseback riding. He’s lived in Southern California (Huntington Beach), northern California (Sacramento) and now resides in Zephyr Cove, Nevada (on beautiful Lake Tahoe).
