As an NX industry user, as a graduate student, and as a university teaching assistant – I really love that students are now able to install and use on their own computers without barriers like access to physical labs or fast network speeds required for remote access.
I think another great feature for the educational edition could be for students to authenticate with their educational credentials within NX to enable the functionalities present in the full academic package.
Finally, I’m sure this has been brought up many times, but I really think new-grads or hobbyists should have an NX edition for them to stay effective design practitioners and evangelists for the software in their future endeavors. While I personally think NX is the most advanced/complete CAD/CAM/CAE package out there, it seems as though students who are “raised” on NX are used as pawns to further entice large organizations to use NX, and that enthusiasts/startups are simply not important to Siemens’ business strategy.
As same as mikefish I really love that students are now able to install and use NX on their own computers. The February Update looks cleaner and smarter than the previous versions. As Professor, I really thanks Siemens PLM for the support and the exceptional work imprinted in the release of the NX Student Edition. Still I would wish a NX Student Edition that will be able to Export to PDF and Print in the near future.
