CNC Programming, Machining Simulation and Shop Floor Connectivity Stage- Siemens at IMTS 2022

At IMTS 2022, experience the end-to-end digital manufacturing production process for a next generation EV component. As we transition from the design phase to the machining stage, working with the integrated NX for Manufacturing solution, users can seamlessly connect the additive and subtractive manufacturing steps, making the process associative and flexible.

In this episode, hear from Joe Taylor, Siemens Senior Application Engineer, who demonstrates how to NC program the 3D printed EV car component using the NX for manufacturing solution.

Before reaching the machining stage, the part was created using the latest topology optimization technology then 3D printed with additive manufacturing. The demonstration covers how to use data from design and the 3D printed component to create custom fixturing and toolpaths in NX CAM, as well as validate the NC programs – all within one software system. Learn how final machining is programmed with NX CAM using key capabilities such as advanced 5-axis programming, cloud-based post-processing, and integrated simulation. Witness how feature-based machining automates the NC programming process, dramatically reducing programming time and ensuring expert knowledge is captured for future re-use. In the case of the eRod component, automating routine tasks reduced the programming time by 60%.

An essential part of the programming process is to verify that the NC code, which will be running on the machine shop floor, can be digitally validated. By helping manufacturers connect the real and digital worlds with the NX for Manufacturing solution, accurate simulation of the machining process prevents any possible interferences in production, resulting in high quality tool paths. In the demonstration, you can see how the integrated machine tool simulation in NX CAM enables a safe, collision-free multi-axis toolpath to finish the EV car component.
