Siemens recognizes INDEX-Group for 1,000 virtual machines sold

Siemens AG recently honored the turning machine manufacturer, INDEX-Group, a longstanding partner in control technology.  In early 2018, INDEX sold the 1000th license for the Industrie 4.0 “Virtual Machine” product, an INDEX development which is based on Siemens control technology.

With the delivery of an INDEX MS22-8 multi-spindle turning machine to Paul Bippus GmbH & Co KG in Oberndorf on the Neckar, Germany, the INDEX factories sold the 1000th license for their innovative “Virtual Machine” product. Siemens took this impressive number as an opportunity to honor the turning machine manufacturer from Esslingen. On Thursday, April 26, 2018, Jürgen Köhler, Head of the Digital Factory Germany Division, visited the INDEX open house together with a delegation to present the Siemens Award in the shape of a glass cube featuring a hologram of a virtual machine.

Technical Director Dr.-Ing. Dirk Prust and Head of Control Technology Eberhard Beck accepted the award on behalf of all employees involved in the INDEX Virtual Machine. The turned parts factory Paul Bippus GmbH & Co KG, purchaser of the 1000th license, also attended the award ceremony.  Martin Melzer, the responsible production manager, accordingly also received a glass cube.

The INDEX Virtual Machine is a 1:1 digital twin of a real machine. This Industrie 4.0 product, which has proven itself for many years, harbors major potential for increasing productivity. The Virtual Machine allows users to virtually plan, test and even optimize new start-ups and workpiece machining operations beforehand in real time and with 100% transferability to the real machine, far away from the production line. It identifies potential problems at an early stage, allowing sufficient time for them to be resolved. The result is reduced setup time and downtime during production. This in turn increases security and efficiency.
