Tuning Means Power, Precision and Quality, Attention to Detail, Specialization, and Innovation

On July 15th I met with manufacturing experts at the DMG MORI Ellison Technologies Day event to experience cutting edge technology through featured presentations, machine demonstrations, hands-on tool and tool holding reviews, and Q&A with Sandvik Coromant Specialists and CAM experts.

The sessions started with Sandvik Coromant giving an overview of machining strategies and techniques being employed today and how you can benefit from utilizing technology that’s been at your fingertips for some time. Special attention was paid to specific comparisons between the different methods or approaches and present actual benchmark numbers and data that chip thinning can bring to gage the relevance and benefits gained.

There was a focus on “motion technology,” which takes the benefits of Radial Chip Thinning and applies them to all geometry and adjusts the motion so that the tool is always in an optimum, safe cutting condition. This higher feed at constant spindle speed and chip thickness can help all machines achieve the highest performance. This is the point where advanced tool path capabilities of the CAM Software used makes all the difference and where NX CAM can play out its full advantage.

The motion technology theory was wrapped up with demo exercises on the machine to give attendees a live experience using some of the techniques introduced in the sessions. They were then shown how to realize the significant benefits and had an opportunity to meet with our Siemens NX CAM experts on-site to talk and view demonstrations of these techniques.
