Partnering with partners expands capabilities and creates new markets

Two Siemens Digital Industries Software solution partners, each with unique Siemens-recognized specializations, merge to serve a broader market to deliver turnkey industry 4.0 solutions. PROLIM, experts in product lifecycle management, engineering, IoT, and IT services, acquired Edge PLM, which provides customers across Australia and New Zealand with world-class digital design, simulation, test, manufacturing and data management, and service solutions.

We spoke with the executives at PROLIM about how they came together, recognized their respective synergies, and what value and benefit they could offer their customers together. Here’s what they said:

How did you meet Edge PLM?

PROLIM has a presence in the US, Canada, Europe, and India, and it aspired to grow in the Asia Pacific region. Given the number of countries in that region, we believed Australia and New Zealand would fit well due to our common language and mature markets. We discussed our APAC expansion plan with our portfolio development manager at Siemens, who suggested considering this ANZ market. So, we did. During the process, we learned that the owner of Edge PLM was considering retiring and looking for an exit strategy. We had worked with Edge PLM in the past and were familiar with them. Our partner management team at Siemens introduced us and helped facilitate an initial meeting.

What opportunity did you see in acquiring Edge PLM?

We researched the market and found that Edge PLM maintained a strong reputation, had over 330 customers focused on Solid Edge and STAR-CCM+ portfolios, and excellent technically competitive employees. These attributes made them very attractive to us. With our success in the US and India and broad NX, Teamcenter and Mendix competencies, we found that we can expand our footprint into our existing areas and add more value to more customers in this new region. We also found that Solid Works was strong in the ANZ region, so we can compete with them by displacing Solid Works or managing Solid Works data using Teamcenter.

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before?

Edge PLM predominantly sold Solid Edge. We can now invest and grow the business by adding salespeople and technical experts to expand into NX, Teamcenter, Mendix and other solutions. Our goal is to be the one-stop solution provider for digital transformation to help ANZ-located customers realize innovation using Siemens solutions. We can strategically hire and position sales reps across Australia to cover the entire geography and focus on growing industry solutions in the agricultural equipment, mining, aerospace and defense, and medical devices industries – and position and deliver solutions on Mendix for all other sectors.

What benefits and value can you now deliver to customers?

Consumers today demand more new products and more features at a lower price. Manufacturers must consider innovating throughout the entire product lifecycle. They need to use digitalization from designing to simulation to collaboration to digitally manufacture products faster and more cost-effectively to meet this demand. While we continue to provide excellent customer support through Edge PLM, we can provide other solutions, leverage global best practices to help customers innovate and expand their products. Our alignment with Siemens and its open and scalable Xcelerator portfolio, combined with the value Edge PLM brings, can help customers leverage their CAD/PLM investments to build more intelligent and innovative products.
