Polarion Day Finland 2013
More than 40 customer representatives and prospective future Polarion users primarily from the Helsinki, Vaasa and Tampere region attended the first Polarion Day Finland arranged in Tampere, on April 18th 2013. The event was arranged by Polarion’s Finnish partner, Taipuva Consulting Ltd. The event was hosted by Taipuva’s Pasi Ahola and by Timothy Ströbele from Polarion Software. Contributing to the session were also Taipuva’s consultants Petri Näppi and Heidi Sohlberg-Siltanen.
The full-day program was designed to provide insight to modern R&D processes and on how to take full advantage of the Polarion tool. It involved real-life experiences from customers Sandvik and Metso, as well as a glance of how Polarion Software themself use the Polarion tool for managing their product development and SCRUM. During the day, new Polarion 2013 features were demonstrated, discussions emerged throughout and one session went on to show a detailed technical example on the power of Polarion wiki reporting. The participants were pleased about the opportunity to network with experts in their field from other companies.
Speakers from leading companies in their respective fields gave presentations on how they have solved complex questions in their key strategic areas by using Polarion. Presenters addressed several questions from the audience, and discussions were continued during the breaks.
Dr. Mika Karaila from Metso Automation presented on the specification process, procedures for reviews and actions, and safety considerations. A key finding in Dr. Karaila’s presentation, applicable across industries, was how Metso uses Polarion to present requirements management handling and progress in a graphical format. Another highlight was showing how Polarion’s traceability capabilities help Metso in achieving regulatory compliance by documenting and reporting the needed evidence of technical design and its process.
Petri Hakomäki from Sandvik Mining and Construction, where Polarion’s products are widely in use, gave a presentation on their experiences. The main topic was dealing with a platform project, with a special view to test and issue management with Polarion. Mr. Hakomäki’s speech pointed out how Polarion offers Sandvik transparency to real-time testing statuses in multiple development projects. A systematic way of testing and issue reporting can be brought in as a company standard. Collaboration between a platform project and product project(s) using the Polarion platform is significantly enhanced.
During the day, attendees had an opportunity to sign up for the afternoon’s expert-led breakout sessions. Topics were quite generally selected to give a framework for small-group discussions: requirements management, test & issue management, and Polarion features & SCRUM. During the sessions, people were able to share and learn about the best practises in the Finnish community.
Based on feedback received, the entire day and the opportunity to interact with peers across industries was well appreciated. The day ended with a casual reception at Taipuva’s offices in Tampere hosted by Sami Somero, board member of Taipuva Consulting.
“It was truly a pleasure to see how experts appreciated the event. I wish to express my many thanks to our fantastic industry guest speakers, and to all who joined us and made it an interactive and useful day for everyone,” says Pasi Ahola, CEO of Taipuva Consulting. Keep an eye on upcoming events from Taipuva and Polarion Software!
