Reduce test setup time & boost FRF testing with Qsources
To manufacturers, properly assessing the acoustic performance of a new vehicle design is of prime importance. And so is fast and accurate FRF testing.
In order to evaluate and quantify a vehicle’s sound package performance, engineers usually measure its acoustic transfer functions. Digitalization is on the rise, but a step of physical verification is still required. This step ensures that digital models are as accurate as physical prototypes. Testing can come at a price. Time slots for the use of prototype vehicles are scarce and testing can demand expensive lab time. To top it all, the test preparation procedure may end up amounting to the largest chunk of the total time required for the process. The preparation time only increases when setting up tests of electric or hybrid-electric vehicle concepts. So, the question is: how can engineers reduce test setup time?
Fast and accurate FRF testing
In the Simcenter portfolio, the range of vibration testing equipment and acoustic monopole sources, Simcenter Qsources, is designed to support fast and easy noise and vibration testing. Setting up the Qsources is as easy as 1,2,3.
For measuring acoustic transfer functions, Simcenter offers a high-frequency monopole source that helps acquire these noise transfer functions in a reciprocal way. This source enables transfer function measurements in the frequency range of 200-10000 Hz. For an even easier setup of the source, Siemens Digital Industries has developed adequate installation support. With this support, a single person can easily set up the test without requiring any additional tools. And then, the engineers acquire acoustic transfer functions by generating noise at ear location and measuring the response at common operational sources, such as tires and powertrain components.
. In fact, the new installation support eases the process of setting up the Qsource, but it also increases data accuracy a great deal!
