International Women’s Day – Anne Rigot
What drew you to an engineering company?
Open position as Executive Assistant in the Liège area.
What was your first job? |
Call center (CANAL+). | |
Were you the only woman on the team? What was that like?
No. I was part of a very young multicultural and mixed team with a great team spirit.
How has your career evolved over the years?
There has been progressive and continuous evolution for both my responsibilities and salary.
Who has helped you along the way?
The management.
Do you think being a woman helped or hurt your career?
Being a woman is rather an asset because administrative jobs are mostly performed by women.
What type of advantages does your country offer compared to other countries? Has this been an advantage?
Belgium is probably one of the most attractive country in the European Union, considering the health and social insurances, the fringe benefits (i.e. child allowance, paid vacation and parental leave), and comparatively low cost of education.
Which has definitely been an advantage for me.

Have you seen things change in the world of engineering in regards to gender equality?
In twenty years of work, I have not seen any noticeable change, and gender equality is not only a concern for the engineering world. All professional sectors are concerned…
What still should be done to make the world of engineering more gender equal?
We all have to promote a change of mentality.
How far do we have to go to achieve gender equality as a whole?
There should be wage equality based on similar experience, education level, and position…
Have we achieved gender equality? If so, why?
Not yet.
Do you honestly think gender equality is possible?
It’s a matter of time depending on changing attitudes in the role assigned to women in their private lives as well. |
