Live from the Geneva International Motor Show

Well, the Geneva International Motor Show opens this weekend. And, bragging rights aside, I got a chance to go behind the scenes during the press days. This, of course, is pretty fun because:

      •  You don’t have to fight massive crowds (just lots of people with really fancy camera equipment and other reporters elbowing for pictures and interviews.)
      •  You actually get to see the final end result of what LMS solutions do for the automotive  industry – everything from fine-tuning NVH and simulating engines to controls engineering.
      •  You get to catch up with some old friends, meet new ones and, well, soak up lots of inspiration.

We’ll be blogging about different things that we’ve seen on a regular basis the next couple of weeks so stay tuned. And just to get you started a few of our favorites in preview…

Old Friends

I think I first wrote about the Ford EcoBoost engine in the late 2000s when I did a series of interviews with now-retired Henry Ford Technical Fellow Dr. Takeshi Abe and his very talented team in Detroit, Michigan. So whenever I get a chance I make sure to go check out what Ford is doing because it is always innovative and forward-thinking. Speaking of which there is a pretty interesting case study online about Ford’s new way of testing, validating and managing the software content that goes into its vehicles with its In Vehicle Software (IVS) program based on the Teamcenter® digital lifecycle management solution from Siemens PLM Software. (Spoiler alert: you’ll be hearing some exciting news about our simulation portfolio soon!)

New Friends

And some of our new friends certainly made a big splash in Geneva: Automobili Lamborghini. Of course, everyone expects the Italian supercars to steal the show, but what you probably don’t know is that LMS Imagine.Lab Amesim helped Automobili Lamborghini create the Aventador LP700-4 driveline concept design.

Inspiration

The Citroën stand won the best stand award according to yours truly. Just because it was so fresh, light and, well, un-automotive. Then again Citroën is famous for its bold design

The Geneva International Motor Show runs until March 13, 2016. Check it out online or, if you are lucky, in-person: www.salon-auto.ch
