Simulation helps ASICS keep a step ahead of the competition
The ASICS Corporation, Institute of Sport Science (ASICS), based in Hyogo, Japan, is very popular in the sports footwear market. At ASICS, simulation software is used as a decision-making tool to guide product development. ASICS states that the use of CAE software provides special insight on the design of a shoe’s sole, enabling important decision making data to be captured in the early phases of development. ASICS uses Femap with NX Nastran and has been able to reduce product development time and turnaround by 30 to 35 percent.
Also, reducing CO2 emissions is becoming an important issue at the corporate level with ASICS as well as most manufacturers today. ASICS finds that the use of simulation plays a crucial role here as well. By using CAE early in the development cycle, the production of physical prototypes is significantly reduced, as are CO2 emissions.
