Interview: Cloud Strategy in the PLM Industry

Does your business have a PLM cloud strategy in place?

Cloud strategies are revolutionizing the PLM industry by letting users securely access product lifecycle management (PLM) information from anywhere, on any device, and at any time.

In fact, according to an article on Information Age, Top 10 Benefits of Cloud Computing, 85% of enterprises today are using multiple clouds, with this proportion expected to grow to 98% within the next three years.  Increased reliability, less overhead, better security, more control of data, increased collaboration, and ease of deployment are all positive outcomes that keep companies singing the praises of cloud computing.

Value of Cloud and PLM together

With all this being said, manufacturers are recognizing the value of the cloud and the value it brings to support the comprehensive digital twin in bringing innovative products to market, faster. As mentioned in PLM and Cloud — Match of the Century, the nature of cloud computing can result in PLM advantages including:

  • Scale and Expansion – Cloud can expand when needed as your geographic distribution, solutions, and processes scale up and out
  • Latest Technology Adoption – Cloud allows for the adoption of cutting edge innovations in security, analytics, machine learning, IoT and more to use throughout each phase of the product lifecycle
  • Affordability – PLM with cloud can be cost-effective, it can reduce IT resource needs, speed up deployments, and rapidly connect users across the entire enterprise, supply, and value chain
