Barriers to adopting additive manufacturing (Part 3) – AM Experience Center

In parts one and two of this series on the barriers to adopting additive manufacturing, we discussed some of the industry’s challenges that are hindering the full adoption of additive manufacturing, and  provided promising resolutions to these barriers.

In this third blog, we will discuss how Siemens Digital Industries Software offers a virtual experience via the Virtual Additive Manufacturing Experience Center to further enhance the customer’s familiarity in using additive manufacturing.

One of the goals for additive manufacturing (AM) at Siemens Digital Industries Software is to promote and enhance the core additive process, its methods and benefits. But we fully recognize that no one company can do this alone. That is why  are joining forces with experts across the industry in an environment that fosters collaboration to industrialize additive and encourage its adoption. Therefore, we have helped build a vast network of partners, both within our businesses and across software and hardware industries, to meet these AM objectives.

A virtual experience

In that same vein, Siemens has developed the Virtual Additive Manufacturing Experience, showcasing additive manufacturing and its benefits. This end-to-end experience provides a journey from idea to completed part across the entire process chain. The virtual center is based on an actual physical facility in Erlangen, Germany. It’s hosted by Siemens and an accomplished team of experts in additive manufacturing, proficient in various AM technologies, the digital thread, software and designing and developing digital twins with sophisticated equipment for creating optimal parts that perform better.

Virtual Additive Manufacturing Experience Center

The Virtual Additive Manufacturing Experience will provide insights into different AM technologies for polymers and metals, at large and small scale, with several applications developed by Siemens and its customers and partners. A company can register to attend a physical or virtual tour. An expert will introduce additive manufacturing and what Siemens offers to help industrialize AM in a compelling experience.

This virtual experience includes the ability to view our software and its various applications – from design to generative engineering, build preparation, build process simulation manufacturing and execution on the shop floor, to collect data from the machines.

The customer will see a plant simulation model of an additive manufacturing factory producing hundreds of thousands of parts. Also, robots performing large scale fused deposition modeling (FDM) polymer processes, and a directed energy deposition (DED) process for metal, providing insights into HP multi-jet fusion technology.

With our Xcelerator suite of products, Siemens Digital Industries Software brings the industrial additive vision to life via the Virtual Additive Manufacturing Experience Center, providing the know-how to the additive software process to create parts and products once thought unthinkable.

Within businesses across both software and hardware industries, Siemens’ significant network of partners focuses on building an ecosystem around the customers’ needs and strategic endeavors—all concentrating on industrializing additive manufacturing.

This is the third blog in a series by Aaron Frankel, providing his expertise on additive manufacturing in a changing industry. Check out more blogs and podcasts discussing additive manufacturing and how it’s going to transform our world.
